Apply for a Foundation Mini-Grant

Who can apply?

The goal of the Foundation is to make funding available to organizations that provide for the improvement of the health and well-being of the individuals in the greater Grand Rapids area. Those organizations must have 501(c)(3) status.

Considerations are given to requests that meet the following criteria:

  • Provide health education, medical services, medical supplies;
  • Promote social welfare;
  • Demonstrate a relationship between the proposal and the goal of the KCMSA Foundation;
  • Are located in greater Grand Rapids;
  • Are $3,000 or less;
  • Are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization;
  • Meet reporting requirements as stated on the application;
  • Spend the grant dollars within one calendar year of receipt.

NOTE: KCMSAF guidelines do NOT allow grant funds to be used for a paid staff position(s), office supplies or office equipment.

As part of our decision making, we incorporate the health needs of our community identified in the Kent County Community Health Needs Assessment (2023) as additional criteria when assessing grant applications. This study found four major health issues facing our community: access to housing, health insurance coverage, access to medical care for underserved groups, and access to healthy foods.  Additionally, the study identified underserved groups in our area: asylum and refugee seekers, immigrants, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ community and veterans. If your application meets one or more of these needs, please indicate that information!

The Foundation has a long history of bridging the gap for individuals when insurance and Medicaid will not cover essential items for their health and wellbeing. We will continue to accept grants from nonprofit organizations requesting funds on behalf of an individual’s health needs.

Emailed submissions are preferred.

Please email completed applications to: foundation.president@kcmsalliance.org
